All bleeds must extend a minimum of 1/8” past trim. Corner marks need to be at least 3/16” from trim.
Any design element not intended to bleed must be a minimum of 1/4” from final trim.
Any design element (e.g. title, author, company imprint) which is not intended to wrap around the edge of the backbone should be a minimum of 3/32” from the backbone edges where possible.
Printed tint panels designed to cover the full width of the backbone should print to the full backbone width. WARNING: Any backbone design intended to cover the full width of the backbone is subject to the inherent variation in paper thickness. This variation, along with normal variation in book manufacturing (see Note below) can lead to instances where the design does not necessarily stop at the backbone edge. Please call your CSR for more information.
No image area is to print on an “INSIDE COVER” in the backbone area. The “ENTIRE” backbone width plus 3/16” on each side of the backbone must be blank for proper glue adhesion, i.e., if backbone width is 1/2” then the backbone width + 3/16” + 3/16” will equal 7/8” blank area. Wherever “NO IMAGE” is to print there should also be “NO COATING” applied.
Note: Normal variation in manufacturing is +/- 1/16” side to side and +/- 1/8” up and down.
This variation should be considered if design position is critical.
Any design element which is not intended to wrap around the edge of the backbone must be a minimum of 3/32” from the backbone edge on each side.
