Vector Images

Last updated on 07 Nov, 2025

Vector graphic files use a different approach than image files. They are made of paths and curves dictated by geometrical descriptions. These paths and curves are produced by design software such as Adobe Illustrator. Vectors are infinitely scalable–they remain smooth and crisp when scaled up or down. Elements like fonts retain their quality when scaled because they are made with vector graphics. A vector graphic’s file size is usually smaller than a raster image of the same dimensions.

Programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape are commonly used to create and manipulate vector images. Avoid raster-based programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, when incorporating vector elements that need to be scaled.
